INVITATION

An invitation is a request, a solicitation, or an attempt to get another person to join you at a specific event.

Accepting an invitation

-That’s very kind of you. Thank you for inviting me. I’d like that very much.

-I’d be delighted to come.

-Thank you. That’d be very nice. I’ll look forward to it.

-Yes, please. Thanks.

-That’s/ What a good idea. That sounds good/ fun.

Setting the details for your invitation

-What time should I come

-Where shall we meet?

-Shall I pick you up?

-What time?

-Where shall I pick you up?

-Shall we meet at half past seven? Say at half past seven.

Decline an invitation

-Thank you very much,  but I’m afraid I can’t come.

-That’s very kind of you, unfortunately I have arranged something else.

-That’s very kind of you, but I won’t be here tomorrow.

-That’s very kind of you, unfortunately I’m busy on Tuesday.

-Thanks, but I won’t be able to make it then.

-No,  thanks.

-I’m all right, thanks.

-I can manage.

Invitation is divided into two, namely formal invitation and informal invitation

1.FORMAL INVITATION

Definition of Formal Invitation :

Formal Invitation (undangan resmi) usually issued by 

an agency or company. This Formal Invitation is 

generally indicated by the abbreviation "RSVP" at the bottom of the invitation.

RSVP is the French abbreviation or Répondez S'il Vous Plait (Respond please/please reply) in 

Indonesia which means "Tolong Tanggapi/ Jawab".

Purpose of Formal Invitation :

Invite someone to attend a certain event in a formal or formal situation.

Example Formal Invitation

Dio: Would you like you to come to my new house for dinner tomorrow?

Fitrah: Sure. I’d like to! What time is the dinner?

Dio: It’s about 7 pm.

Fitrah: Okay, see you tomorrow!

Informal invitations

Informal is a less polite way of asking for people normally used for friends and family

Why not come round for a drink? What about going out for a meal? Why not join us for a drink?

Fancy going for a drink/ a meal?

There’s a really nice place just a few minutes from here/ round the corner. Shall we meet later tonight to discuss it over dinner?

Let’s discuss it later over a drink.

Example Informal Invitation

Dio: How about having dinner together next Friday? With Naufal and eibel

Fitrah: Sorry, I don’t think I can make it next Friday. I’ve already had another appointment.

Dio: Oh, that’s okay, then.
